Tensa Iron Ore Mines
Our captive Iron Ore mines, situated in
Tensa valley; district Sundergarh, Orissa, are a manifestation of our
endeavor to harness the profound benefits of back-end integration and ensure
consistency in the quality of raw material used in sponge iron kilns.
Operating successfully since 1990, these mines, popularly known as TRB
(Tantra, Raikela, Bandhal), make us self reliant to an extent and enable us
to keep a strict quality check on the raw material that forms the core of
all our other business activities.
Declared as the best mine by the Director General of Mines Safety, Govt.
of India, the mine has an accident-free record for the last 3 years.
Production Abilities
These mines meet a part of our Iron ore requirement for the sponge iron
plant. Accoutered with fully mechanized techniques, it is currently
producing about 555000 MT of sponge grade ore. An additional crusher is also
being installed to ensure the availability of high-grade iron ore.
Mining

Mining has been started from top slicing
method. OB and Ore are removed mechanically with the help of Excavator and
DUMPER combination. Average heights of the benches are maintained as per the
Regulations and permissions granted by DIRECTOR OF MINES SAFETY, Chaibasa
Region. The ROM feed to the Crusher to get the final products of 5-20 mm.
size crushed ore. In the crushing unit, two Crushers are installed.
Haul Road
Haul roads are maintained properly taking into account width and gradient.
Parapet wall all along the haul road have been provided & maintained.
Drilling & Blasting
Drilling operation is carried out at mines with the help of XAH-210 Atlas
Copco Compressor and Wagon Drills. Dust extractors have been used for dust
collection in Wagon Drill and Water injection system has been provided in
wagon drill for wet drilling. Occasionally Jack Hammer drilling provided for
secondary blasting.
Dust Suppression

Sufficient water spraying arrangements
has been provided to suppress dust on haul road with the help of 10 KL
capacity Water Tankers through out the working shifts. Water sprinklers have
also been provided at all discharge points of Crusher along with the
atomized sprinkling arrangement.
Transport in Mines
The ROM from mine is being transported through well maintained haul road by
35 MT and 25 MT capacity Dumpers to Crusher. Our haul road maintenance is
the best in the locality for which we are getting best haul road prize
during the Annual Mines Safety Week Celebration in every year.

participation by workers and management to achieve the ZERO accident.
Environment & Ecology

- Topsoil is mined out separately and stacked & used for
plantation.
- Sub-grade minerals are separately stacked for future use.
- Effective dust suppression system introduced at Crushing Plant.
Water tanker & sprinklers are provided for dust suppression at
mines haul roads.
- Air, water quality, noise and other environmental parameters as
per the prescribed scheduled monitored periodically and limits are
found well below permissible limits.
- 8 Nos. of check dams are provided to arrest the fines and
suspended particles. Clean water is allowed to be discharged from
the mines after treatment. We are applying Micah-floc (flocculating
agent) to the surface run-off to settle the suspended particles.

Health and Peripheral Development activities

Free Medical service is being provided to
nearby villagers regularly (i.e. Tantra, Raikela, Zero Point, Bandhal &
Barsuan) through our medical staffs. Also medical heath camp is being
organized with the consultation of the District Authority at our Mines. As
per peripheral development programme, we have been voluntarily constructing
road from Tensa to Kaleiposh near about 35 K.M. for the public and
commercial movement of the district and all over the year we are maintaining
black topping road about 17 Kms from our mines to Barsuan And other
development work has been done like construction of Small Dam, Well, Pond,
Temple, Club & also providing free electricity, water supply & we
have donated three teachers to various school. We are actively participating
with the celebration of local tribal cultural function by way of extending
financial as well as physical help. Further we are celebrating Annual Mines
Safety Week and ME & MC Week actively by employees as well as villagers.
